Ever is 15 and weighs over 300
pounds. She is the joke of almost
everyone in her High School including her 2 stepsisters. There’s a voice in her head named
Skinny who is the worst bully of all, always telling Ever negative things and
what “other people” are thinking.
Despite her efforts to lose weight, she is stuck in a cycle of lose a
few gain a lot, so Ever decides to get gastric bypass surgery. She hopes it will change her life, her
dad hopes it will save it.
This novel addresses morbid obesity and its social and
health problems without much graphic detail. The characters, while predictable, feel genuine. I would recommend this novel to a
middle school library even though the characters are high school because the
novel is free from High School issues. MS, HS - ADVISABLE. Reviewer: Lisa Media Specialist
