Polacco, Patricia.
Bully. PICTURE BOOK.
G.P. Putnam’s Sons, 2012. $17.99. Content: G.
Lyla gets a cell phone and a Facebook profile to try to fit
in at her new school. These items become a problem when she becomes friends
with a popular group of girls. Lyla has to make some difficult choices when she
and others start to be bullied.
As with all of Polacco’s books, the artwork in Bully is
outstanding.
The bullying
situation is fairly generic, particularly when compared to the typically
distinctive qualities of Polacco’s other books, but the anti-bullying message
is still very strong and effective because of the well-built character
stories. It gives good examples
and actions to take for people who are being bullied.
