Hubbard, Mandy You Wish, 284 p. Razorbill (Penguin), 2010. $ 8.99.Content: G (4 swears). Ever since her dad walked out, Kayla’s life has been pretty crappy – mom is too busy trying to make money to care and her brother is no help at all. After the world’s worst sweet sixteen party, Kayla wishes that all her birthday wishes would come true, because they never do. And fulfilled they are – one a day. While some are just silly, they all cause huge complications for Kayla (how do you explain a life-sized bright pink pony), but worse of all Kayla remembers last years wish – a kiss by a certain boy, who happens to now be her best friend’s boyfriend. Hubbard has a fine sense of the absurd (read Prada and Prejudice!) and crafts a very funny story. Just think back to how many of your birthday wishes you can remember! MS – ADVISABLE.
