Kindergarten Cat by J. Patrick Lewis
Lewis, J. Patrick. Kindergarten Cat, illustrated by Ailie Busby. Schwartz & Wade Books (Random House), 2010. $16.99. PICTURE BOOK. Their kindergarten class has a new cat. The janitor found it on the playground and brought it inside. Everyone in the class is eager to make the cat welcome. They name her Tinker Toy and find out she is smart. She answers several questions that the teacher asks. Tinker Toy makes a bed in the paintbrush drawers and dreams of how nice it is to have a kindergarten home. The bright cartoon illustrations are reminiscent of a child’s sketches, but are of a professional quality. The steady meter and rhyme make this story easy and fun to read aloud. EL – ADVISABLE. Samantha, Public Librarian.
