Air Show! by Treat Williams
Williams, Treat. Air Show! illustrated by Robert Neubecker. Disney Hyperion, 2010. $16.99. PICTURE BOOK. Ellie is going to an air show in an airplane! Her dad and his friend Carl prepare for takeoff by going through a checklist. Ellie tells her brother Gill that she’s going to fly in a stunt plane. He says she has to be a pilot first. They take off and fly to their destination. Then her dad and Carl go through the landing checklist. They go see all sorts of planes: historic, war, biplanes, jets, flying boats, and more. Then they meet Amelia with her red stunt plane. She invites Ellie to go on a ride and be copilot. They fly upside down. Ellie wants to fly again, but it is time to go home. The plot is like an airplane ride that takes a little while to get off the ground because of too numerous flight details. The illustrations are the stand-out feature of this book and give you the feeling of being inside the cockpit and actually at the air show. Pre-K, EL – ADVISABLE. Samantha, Public Librarian.
