Thanking the Moon: Celebrating the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival by Grace Lin
Lin, Grace. Thanking the Moon: Celebrating the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival. Alfred A. Knopf (Random House), 2010. $16.99. PICTURE BOOK. A family celebrates the Mid-Autumn Festival by having a nighttime picnic with fruit, tea, and sweet mooncakes. The family creates a “moon-honoring table” and each member holds glowing lanterns. Then they thank the moon and send up their secret wishes. Author/illustrator Grace Lin gives a two-page explanation of the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival. Lin explains that is a thanksgiving or harvest festival for Chinese and other Asian people. Lin mentions the different customs that are highlighted in the book. The nighttime illustrations are colorful and have vivid patterns. A quick and delightful read. EL – ADVISABLE. Samantha, Public Librarian.
