Terlu’s punishment for giving a plant sentience is to become a statue and be a visual reminder of what happens to those who presume to use magic they aren’t entitled to. After drifting through this non-life, she wakes one day to find herself restored and on an island with an extremely handsome, but very grumpy gardener. And the greenhouses that hold the plants of the island are failing.  Terlu is supposed to restore them, but how can she use magic again - what if she gets caught?  It is only through the discovery of a greenhouse full of sentient plants that Terlu starts getting the clues and the help that she needs to really help. Dare she?

Durst’s Spellshop world is so delightful.  I love being enchanted by my fantasy rather than always being dragged through war and destruction. The slowburn romance is a perfect secondary plot.
