Amina is a great student. She lives with her family in Aleppo when suddenly her home is bombed by a government air strike, and her father is forced to take his family to Lebanon for their safety. But Lebanon is unwelcoming to the Syrian refugees and that is making things difficult for the family. With a sick brother and a father out of work, and owing money to a dangerous loan shark, Amina must shoulder some of the adult responsibilities.

Samya Kullab was a reporter for a newspaper in Lebanon; he has based this graphic novel on the combined stories of several refugee families. Such an important story, this graphic novel - beautifully illustrated by Jackie Roche, will certainly give the reader insight into the conflict in Syria and the plight of the refugees. A wonderful book to build empathy.
