The Golden Compass: The Graphic Novel by Philip Pullman - OPTIONAL

Pullman, Philip The Golden Compass: The Graphic Novel, 200 pages.  GRAPHIC NOVEL.  Knopf, 2017.  $22. Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: G; Violence: PG.

Lyra, like everyone else, has a special bond with an animal –her daemon. They are forever together –mentally bonded. When her best friend Roger is kidnapped, she is determined to find him. But what she discovers is a horrifying new technology that is able to cut a person from their daemon –severing that life long bond and a mother she didn’t know she had.

I have always hated this book series and feel deeply disturbed from having read them as a youth. I was probably not the best person to review this book. This graphic novel version is even worse –as it lacks all the beauty and artistic choices of the movie and replaces them with some of the worst graphic novel artwork I have seen to date. Dismal, drab, and downright depressing.
