Lambert, Nancy R. The
Star-Spangled Banner Penguin Young Readers, 2016. $3.99
EARLY READER Content: G.
The American flag has many names, among them
is the Star Spangled Banner, but this book explains that about the actual
Star Spangled Banner that flew over Fort McHenry. The Star Spangled Banner was as big as a
school bus and was made to inspire troops and America against the British. The actual banner is now stored in the Smithsonian
institute.
This book is an interesting
historical look at this artifact. The
story behind the Star Spangled Banner, including the song that was inspired by
the banner is simply explained. There
are a lot of great pictures that keep the reader’s attention. Each page has 3-5 sentences to read and it is
marked as a level 4 early reader, making it work better for 2nd-3rd
graders.
