Nadia Comaneci is a former Romanian gymnast whose success
and achievement initiated a surge of interest in gymnastics in the 1970s. She was a national champion at an early age,
and achieved worldwide fame by being the first gymnast to score perfect “10s”
in several individual events in the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal.
This picture book focuses on Nadia’s earliest years, ending
with her stunning performance in the 1976 Olympics at age 14. Including this book in a biography collection
could introduce a new generation of readers to an athlete who influenced and
inspired thousands of people. The
illustrations evoke the constant movement in this young star that the title
implies. The book covers her accomplishments in breaking the scoring barrier
and her hard work, which are worthy of discussion.
