The Twelve Days of Christmas by Susan Jeffers - ADVISABLE

Jeffers, Susan  The Twelve Days of Christmas  Harper, 2013.  $17.99  PICTURE BOOK  Content: G.

In this version of the Twelve Days of Christmas, a little girl goes to the closet on Christmas Eve and finds a present from Santa.  When she opens it, she finds a musical snow globe with a partridge in a pear tree.  When she plays with it, it cracks.  She cries herself to sleep on the couch and falls into a dream where she travels with Santa and the rest of the song plays out, and she sees French hens, maids milking, etc.  At the end of the book she falls asleep when she is watching Santa fix her snow globe.  She wakes in the morning, unwraps her present and finds her snow globe all fixed.

Susan Jeffers is a great artist and makes the song, the Twelve Days of Christmas, come to life through the little girl character.  The illustrations are detailed and make the story more interesting.  Overall, this is a fun Christmas book.

 EL (K-3)-ADVISABLE.
