Norwich, Grace. Vanarsdale, Anthony. I Am Sacagawea, 128 pgs. Scholastic Paperbacks, 2012. $5.99.
This is a great biography of Sacagawea. This book belongs to a new biography series that will feature important historical figures. It was well written and illustrated. We found the story to be easily read as well as exciting and informative. This book summarizes all of the incredible adventures and accomplishments of Sacagawea and gives the reader a new appreciation for her role in American History. We loved the timeline, the illustrations, and the review at the end of the book. We loved that the book began in first person. One suggestion would be to save the added “tidbits” until the end of the chapter. As an adult, I knew they were additions and not a continuation of the story, but my children got confused. The story line should read uninterrupted and the additional information added at the end of each chapter. We are looking forward to the next book in this great series!
