Turner, Pamela S. Project Seahorse, photographs by Scott Tuason. 72 p. Houghton Mifflin, 2010. $18.00. Amanda Vincent pioneered a new field of study when she decided to study seahorses in the wild. After her PhD, her focus turned to helping the seahorse regain a foothold – especially around the Handumon reefs off the coast of the Philippines. Now she, friends and fellow biologists work each day, researching, conserving and working to help educate the world about the need to restore ecological balance – not just to the reef, but to the world ecosystem. While just the information on the seahorses and the scientists is fascinating, Turner adds the extra fillip of the world’s responsibility to take better care of everything around. As I have said every time before, the beautiful books in the series are important research sources on every level. EL, MS, HS – ESSENTIAL. Cindy, Library-Teacher.
