A Girl Named Hillary: The True Story of Hillary Clinton by Rebecca Paley - ADVISABLE

Paley, Rebecca A Girl Name Hillary: The True Story ofHillary Clinton Illustrated by Melissa Manwill EARLY READER Scholastic, 2018. $5.  Content: G.

When Hillary was little, her parents taught her to stand up for herself.  She also was interested in helping those in her community who needed help.  When she was a teenager she wanted to be an astronaut, but NASA told her that would never happen because she was a girl.  Hillary also was involved in student government and eventually became president of her college’s student body.  She married, had a family, went through law school, was the First Lady, was the Secretary of State and ran for President of the United States.  She cares about young people and wants girls to believe in themselves.

This is a good introduction to who Hillary Clinton is for newer readers.  The illustrations are appealing and there is a timeline at the back of the book.  There is also a connection between Hillary and a girl named Alena who is also interested in politics at the back of the book.  The American Girl brand on this book is going to draw readers.

EL (K-3) – ADVISABLE.  Reviewer, C. Peterson.
