Cody, Matthew The Piper’s Apprentice (Pied Piper #3), 263
pgs. Alfred A. Knopf, 2017. $16.99. Language G; Mature Content: G; Violence: PG
(battles, death).
Carter is traveling with the
Pied Piper for better or for worse on the Summer Isle, which doesn’t seem to be
living up to its name. Carter is
separated from his sister, Max, and their stories alternate back and forth as
he journeys to the Magician’s Landing, while Max is determined to find her
brother. Baba Yaga, the witch, has evil
designs for the Summer Isle, the first of which is to find and destroy
Carter. The Piper’s agenda is rather
more mysterious.
This is the concluding book in the Secrets of the Pied Piper trilogy. All of these storylines weave together to create a
satisfying ending to the trilogy. There
is plenty of adventure as battle lines are drawn. Matthew Cody does a good job reminding us
about plot points, so if you’ve been waiting for this book for awhile, you can
still dive right in. Pull up your
favorite reading spot and immerse yourself in rats, ogres, and creepy gray men.
