This
graphic novel is a re-telling of the story of Marco Polo, which much emphasis
on his relation of his life story at the end of his life to a companion in a
jail cell. Readers discover his reconnection with his father, his yearning for travel,
and his journey to the Khan. His works for the Khan for 20 years though few
details about provided about his exploits. Features vague illustrations that
are black and one other colors, like brown or green.
I
am fascinated with the story of Marco Polo and was excited to read the story in
graphic novel form. But the illustrations really ruined it for me. I image his
life as vivid with journeys through deserts, Jerusalem, and bazaars not to
mention the richness of the Khans lifestyle, but was sorely disappointed with
the watery and absolutely uninspiring art in this book. The story is tricky to follow
as it skips back and forth through time and has an added component of Marcos
fevered dreams. Not great for research or even an interest in Marco Polo.
