The Zapata family is barely getting by on paying
their bills, and they are just doing the best they can along with everyone
else. In unrelated but concurrent events, both Zapata children, Sara and Emiliano,
are confronted with life-changing problems concerning illegal activities. They
are forced to ask themselves difficult questions: what is really important to
them? And what is the right thing to do?
With a title like Disappeared and the reputation of the city
of Juárez told to readers at the beginning of the book, I was on the edge of my
seat waiting for something—or everything—to go wrong, even while I dreaded its
arrival. The expectation was for something sudden to happen, and, although a
lot of things did end up going wrong, the danger was slower and subtler than
anticipated. Overall, Stork tells an engaging story and teaches good principles
while doing so.
