Galdone, Paul Rumpelstiltskin,
PICTURE BOOK. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 1985. $8.99. Content: G
The classic fairy tale starts with the miller boasting about
how his daughter can turn straw into gold. The greedy king locks her in a room
until she can spin straw into gold. She can’t do it and enters into a deal with
a man by the name of Rumpelstiltskin and then more deals until she runs out of
things to give him. She offers him her first-born child. I had forgotten the
story and this version was beautifully told and illustrated.
