Anderson, Laurie Halse Thank You, Sarah: The Woman Who Saved
Thanksgiving, illustrated by Matt Faulkner. Simon, 2012.
$18.
Sarah Hale, the woman
who wrote “Mary Had A Little Lamb”, loved nothing more than a cause. For 38 years she worked in every state
and then through 5 different presidents to get Thanksgiving declared a national
holiday. Without her tireless work
and her mighty, prolific pen, we probably would not be celebrating the
day.
This is book is not so much
about Thanksgiving and more about how a single person can persevere with a great idea
and make a change. Fun to read
around the holiday, but really much more than that.
EL (K-3) – ADVISABLE.
