Secrets at Sea by Richard Peck - OPTIONAL

Peck, Richard  Secrets at Sea  238 pg.  Dial Books for Young Readers, 2011.  $16.99 Content: G.  Helena is the oldest sister in a family of four mice.  She decides to follow their human family on a voyage to England.  On the voyage Helena’s siblings all find their place in life.  Beatrice is a love-struck mouse who finds the mouse of her dreams, the mouse steward.  Louise finds a best friend in her human who confides all her romantic fancies.  Lamont grows from an irresponsible young mouse to a hard working ship hand.  And then Helena becomes the assistant to the Duchess Mouse.  The story also follows the human family, the Cranston’s love interests.

This book was cute and very girlie, but I felt it was a bit long for the young audience it was directed towards.  Also, between the humans and the mice there were too many names to follow which made it confusing.
