McDonald, Megan Judy Moody Twice as Moody Illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds 286 pages. Candlewick Press, 2011. $7.99. This book is actually the first two books of the Judy Moody series combined in one book. In the first book, Judy Moody is a third grader who wants a new pet, so her parents take her to get a venus fly trap. She also sits next to a boy at school named Frank and after she ignores his attempts to become friends, she ends up at his birthday party and finds out that he is a really nice person. The second part of the book is about Judy’s attempts to become famous. Judy is jealous of the spelling bee winner in her class, so she makes a couple of attempts at her own kind of famous. But when one of her attempts puts her friend at the hospital with a broken finger she finds a way to help the hospital that makes her anonymously famous.
I thought the character learned good lessons each time, my only complaint is that she isn’t always nice to her little brother.
