Princess Hyacinth: (The Surprising Tale of a Girl who Floated) by Florence Parry Heide
Heide, Florence Parry. Princess Hyacinth: (The Surprising Tale of a Girl Who Floated), illustrated by Lane Smith. Schwartz & Wade Books, 2009. $17.99. Princess Hyacinth looked normal, but she wasn’t. She floated. Her parents, the king and queen, weighted her down with a royal crown to keep her on the ground. One day she meets a man selling balloons and insists he tie a string to her ankle so that she can float with the balloons. The string breaks, but Hyacinth isn’t worried. She’s floating and having fun. The illustrations by Caldecott Honor-winner Lane Smith soar well above the average picture book and add humor to this delightful tale. EL- ADVISABLE.
