Mateo is angry, assuaging his anger by beating up his
ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend, but today he is going to die. Rufus is alone, his dad in a coma, and he too
will be dying today. Death Cast has called and there is no escaping their
fate. No one knows how Death Cast knows
who will die, but between 12am – 3 am, if its your turn, you will get a
call. Through the Last Friend app, the
two boys find each other and spend the last hours of their last days together –
finding friendship and then something even more in each other - hoping they
might be the first ones to escape their fate.
Silvera’s invention of Death Cast is brilliant! Mateo and
Rufus are both well worth getting to know and following their final day has
humor, pathos, and love – even if you know that they will both be gone when it
is done.
