13yo Leah has had a rough year; a family tragedy has left Leah and her parents broken. It's summer vacation, but Leah isn't doing what she's always done - swimming with friends, camp, parties. This year she's bored, and lonely - until she meets Jasper - a girl new to the neighborhood, and they become almost instant friends - but both girls have secrets, and sharing them could change everything.

A beautiful story about grief, loss, friendship, community and family. Leah is relieved (and excited) to find a friend like Jasper - someone who doesn't know her history, so she can be herself, and reciprocate a friendship that Jasper needs as well. Middle schooler looking for a stand alone with strong female friendships will like this one.
