There are five worlds, with five different races, each world
suited to each race. Their habitats are breaking down and some believe that is
due to the fact that each planet has not been able to light its ancient beacon.
The mother world, the largest, house's a magical group of sand dancers, they
believe they have a special person who can light all the beacons, but the other
worlds don't buy it and even want to battle for resources. Oona is a young sand
dancer who was miraculously and expectantly to light the first beacon. Together
with two friends, An, a young boy who doesn't have long to live and Jax, a star
athlete robot they are on their way to try to light another beacon. However,
much is against them, including the dreaded Mimic. Additionally Oona will get
the chance to meet up again with her sister.
Just like the first book, this is an incredibly well written book with multi-faceted plot. Its quite complex, and I probably should have re-read of the first book to really grasp everything that happened in this second book. Reading this graphic novel is truly like watching a great anime movie with fantastic illustrations, well crafted characters, and top notch world building. Upper elementary students at my school have loved the first book and it has been heavily circulated. I have been getting requests for this second book all year long. I am eager to add it to the collection. Great for middle school as well!
