Clark and his siblings are playing on their porch one rainy day when Clark's sister drops her bear. The creative Clark is off to the rescue, braving the front yard -- or what, in his imagination, becomes the deep sea. Can Clark save the bear and make it safely back to the "shore" of the porch? Or will he be mired in the "ocean" of a front yard forever?
This is a colorful celebration of imaginative play. Details in the beginning give hints as to what's to come, making it even better on a second read-through, or in a discussion of foreshadowing and predictions. My eight-year-old daughter would also like me to mention that she finds it "kind of funny."
