Scarlett Hart Monster Hunter by Marcus Sedgwick –ADVISABLE

Scarlett Hart Monster Hunter by Marcus Sedgwick and Thomas Taylor 192 pages. GRAPHIC NOVEL First Second, 2018. $15.

Language: G 0 swears) ; Mature Content: PG (tries to order alcohol at bar, lots of gun violence); Violence: G.

Scarlett is determined to do what her parents did (before they died) which is to hunt monsters for bounty. Along with the butler, Napoleon, they seek out monsters of all kinds, then turn them in for money. But technically she is too young to be employed this way. So her parents rival Count Stankovic is determined to thwart her by turning her in, by beating her to monsters, and just plain cheating. But Scarlett isn’t about to give up, especially when she gets the hint that there is a book that is calling up monsters, and Stankovic might be in on it.

This was a fun and easy to follow adventure for upper elementary and middle school. Scarlett is a determined and brave character in the face of danger. There is lots of action and monster encounters all at a fast pace. I think readers looking for a slightly spooky graphic novel with a brave heroine will love this story. I would add this to my collection!
