Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson-ESSENTIAL

Sanderson, Brandon, Steelheart. pgs. 386. Delacorte Press, 2013. $18.99. Content: Language: G, Mature Content: PG-13, Violence: PG-13

When the Calamity hit, epics(people with superpowers) were created. No one exactly knows how it happened, but everyone knows the effects. Meet David. 10 years ago, shortly after the Calamity, he lost his father to Steelheart. While at a bank with his father, he watched Steelheart killed everyone, but him.  David is the only person ever to witness Steelheart’s weakness when his father accidentally shot the epic. Every epic has a weakness, each one has a way to be killed, and David’s the only one left who can stop Steelheart. With the help of a group of rebels called the Reckoners, David will attempt the impossible: kill Steelheart and take back the city. Will he succeed?

The characters are well-developed. The plot is suspenseful, well-written, and hard to put down. Not your typical superhero vs. supervillain book, readers will appreciate all the twist and turns and will eagerly await this book’s sequel.
