Part-Time Princess by Deborah Underwood - ADVISABLE

Underwood, Deborah  Part-Time Princess Illustrated by Cambria Evans  Disney Hyperion Books, 2013.  $16.99  PICTURE BOOK  Content: G.
During the day, the main character is an ordinary girl.  She takes spelling tests and has a little brother who breaks her crayons, but at night, after her mom tucks her in bed, the little girl transforms into a princess.  She walks down the magical staircase from her window and drives a carriage to her castle, where she has to put out a fire and befriend a dragon.  She takes lessons in fencing, circus arts and studies magical beasts.  Later she hosts the queen and they play leap frog and eat cake.  To end the evening she has a ball, where she dances with a handsome prince and a troll.  At the end of the night she heads home and goes to bed, but when she wakes in the morning her and her mom (the Queen) both have glitter in their hair.
This is a cute take on being a princess.  This princess doesn’t wait around to be taken care of, she takes care of things herself.  Her independent and caring nature make her a fabulous princess who takes care of her kingdom.  The illustrations are pink and frilly which will attract any young princess's attention.
