Revis, Beth Shades of Earth 369 pgs. Razorbill, January 15, 2013. $18.99. Violence: R, Sexual Content: PG-13, Language: PG (made-up swear words and several instances of "shite").
In the third and final book of the Across the Universe series, Elder, Amy, and the passengers of Godspeed face the dangers of Centauri-Earth, a beautiful but deadly planet filled with mystery and danger. When their colony comes under attack, Amy and Elder learn that they may not be the only intelligent life on the planet. Now they must fight to survive, or risk extinction.
A complex, suspenseful, and action-packed novel, Shades of Earth still manages to explore such themes as humanity, authority, trust, love, and loss. Like the other books in the series, this would make an interesting piece for a group discussion. Please note: due to strong violence, this book is more appropriate for mature teens and adults. Some readers may find the very high number of gruesome deaths disturbing, especially as several were portrayed in gory and unflinching detail. One sex act is alluded to in very general terms, but not described.
