Waters, Cassie, Cool Down. Simon and Schuster, 2012. Pgs. 146. Language: G, Violence: G, Sexual Content: G
It’s almost the end of summer and, since her fight in July
with Grace, Christina is feeling the pain of
all of her friends going on vacation. When Mike Morris’ cousin, Nikki Angelo
comes into the picture at the RSC. Nikki is funny, carefree, cool, and
everything Christina has been looking for in a friend. There is one thing,
however, that spells T-R-O-U-B-L-E. Nikki doesn’t even blink when it comes to
bending the rules and getting Christina in trouble. Can Christina find a
balance in her life and figure out who her true friends are?
A quick, entertaining read for girl reluctant readers. The
characters are a little shallow, but endearing. The plot is simple, but fun to
read. Readers who like realistic fiction, swimming, and friendship stories will
enjoy reading this book. EL (4-6). OPTIONAL. Reviewer: Kira M, Youth Services
Librarian, WHI Public Library.
