Waldron Kevin, Mr. Peek and the Misunderstanding at the Zoo. Templar Books (an imprint of Candlewick Press), 2008 $15.95. Content G. PICTURE BOOK.
Mr. Peek gets dressed before work to find his jacket is too small, then becomes self-conscious about his weight, age, hygiene, and just about everything else until he finds the real reason his jacket doesn’t fit. He speaks these negative thoughts out loud to himself, but the animals overhear and think he is speaking to them.
This book teaches a valuable lesson about how gossip and making assumptions can be detrimental to those you don’t even think you are having an effect on. This is another great book to add to a character education collection.
EL, MS - ADVISABLE, Shauna, reading teacher.
