A great introduction to slave poetry and a poet. The illustrations are beautifully done. The text is simple, but does a great job of telling the story of Dave. Readers who like non-fiction, historical fiction, and stories about artists and slaver will enjoy reading this book. EL (4-6). ADVISABLE.
