PICTURE BOOK
The artist drew one eye larger than the other. They tried to make the other eye bigger and made
an even bigger mistake. The extra-long
neck and arms were mistakes too, luckily, they drew a lacey collar and that was
a good idea. There was too much space
between the girl and the floor. Another
mistake was the creature that was somehow a “frog-cat-cow thing.” Which
made a nice rock. The ink smudges became
leaves in the sky. The girl is now
holding countless yellow balloons and there is a whole magical world from a
tree that just maybe a helmet. The author
asks, “Do you see—how with each mistake, she is becoming?”This book would be a great way to teach children that there are no mistakes in art. That every ink blot can be a new way of creating. The illustrations are unique and unmistakably perfect. The majority of the illustrations are black and white, so when color is added, it really pops. This story is imagination at its very best.
Pre-K, EL-ADVISABLE.
