Ollie & Moon in New York City, by Diane Kredensor, Photographs by Sandra Kress - ADVISABLE

Kredensor, Diane.  Ollie & Moon in New York City.  Photographs by Sandra Kress.  Random House, 2017.  $5.99.  Content: G.  PICTURE BOOK.
Moon is determined to make Ollie laugh.  Moon bets Ollie that she can make him laugh.  Moon tries everything: ketchup fangs, hotdog sneezes, silly faces, and even tries to tame a lion statue.  Ollie doesn’t so much as crack a smile.  They take pictures at famous sites and Moon even gets help from some mimes, but still Ollie doesn’t laugh.  Moon is about to give up when a bird poops on her head.  Ollie starts to laugh and so does Moon.

The use of photographs of iconic sites in New York give shape to the story and add an extra layer of interest for both children and adults.  The cartoon characters are brightly drawn with strong expressions.  Children will relate to Ollie and Moon’s slapstick sense of humor and rather poopy conclusion.
