The moment Sammy wakes up, he knows something is different. A careful counting reveals that one of his 500 perfect spots is missing. He tries to capture the wayward spot, but cannot make it stay, so he lets it go instead. The spot learns all about the world during its travels, while Sammy stays home and learns to live with 499 spots -- and an award ribbon over the empty space. Will Sammy and his missing spot ever be together again?
This is a picture book example of the adage about letting a butterfly go and waiting to see if it will fly back to you. The art is adorable, and the story is sweetly satisfying. A nice addition to a library.
