Emmett Otter and his mother live in Frogtown Hollow where they scrape out a meager existence washing clothes and doing the occasional odd job. Christmas is just around the corner and both Emmett and his mother have the idea to get each other a special Christmas surprise. With money being scarce, they both set out to enter a local talent show, each with the hope of winning the grand prize for the other.
This is a classic story from the creators of the Frances the Badger books. It touches on the struggles of poverty and the determination to stick together no matter the challenges. This is an excellent story that beautifully illustrates the spirit of Christmas and the love of family.
