11yo Roya has a secret podcast that centers around the people of her Brooklyn apartment building (names are changed to protect the innocent), where her mother is the superintendent. One day she hears a couple in the laundry room talking about a curse and the next day one of them is missing. Roya, along with Amin, whose family just moved in. decide to investigate.  Little do they know that they will be led to Coney Island and back through time – and only the two kids can solve the mystery.

While a perfectly serviceable mystery, it doesn’t hold the reader’s attention in a tight grip. The apartment family is an international cast of characters.  The missing woman and her wife Stephanie bring in a mild LGBT touch. Wanted to love it, but just couldn’t.
