28yo Bee is an accomplished, talented, purple-haired neuroscientist trying to make her way in a man's field of study. So when a once-in-a-lifetime project from NASA comes her way, how could she refuse this chance to advance her career? Certainly not Bee! Even if it means moving to Huston. Even if it means leaving her cozy little apartment and her funny neighbor's cat. Even if it means working as a co-lead with her (not unattractive) grad school nemesis, 32yo Levi Ward. As she works on this project, Bee will need to navigate lost lab equipment, misogynistic bosses, a disappearing cat, and her growing feelings for an (ex?) arch-nemesis.
Listen, I don't mind political themes in books, in fact, I enjoy them when they are explored and actually make a decent case for their point. This book was not, and rather painfully promoted veganism and feminism with crying over roadkill and intentionally discriminatory men (like all male characters but the love interest). While advertised as the sequel to a popular BookTok book, it was not, in fact, related at all and held a lot more sexual scenes. All main characters are white, the main couple is heterosexual, and there is a side couple that gets into a lesbian relationship.
