AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH

Day is a 15yo who lives in a dystopian version of the United States.  Day rebels against the tyrannical Republic, while keeping an eye on his mom and brothers.  June is a fifteen-year-old who works for the Republic’s military, following in her brother’s footsteps.  When June’s brother is killed, she turns her military skills on Day, the criminal pegged with the crime.  June and Day quickly learn that they have more in common that they though, yet they both have a hard time letting their past go.

I got sucked into this novel off the bat, finishing it in two days.  I love Day and June and the switching perspectives that changes from chapter to chapter.  The dystopian world is well described and the conflict for the characters is a good mix of the big story of the evil Republic and the intimate story of their families. There is action, romance, family and good world building.  I can’t wait to read the next book.  The content includes a shocking death, mass murder and a gory explanation of a disease.
