Broach, Elise Missing on Superstition Mountain, 272 pgs. Henry Holt and Co, 2011. $11.93.
Rating: PG in all categories
When three brothers have the whole summer to explore their new hometown of Superstition, Arizona, there is bound to be an adventure. Right out their back door is the very mysterious Superstition Mountain, and the temptation is too much to resist. Throw in grisly discovery, some detective work, and a new friend and there is a recipe for disaster.
Simultaneously easy to read while being quite intelligent.
This book does not underestimate children’s innate curiosity and ability to understand complex concepts. (for example it explains what a fugue is). The plot is detailed and has a lot of intriguing room for continuation. The only thing that bugged me was the very stereotypical parents –who leave 3 bored boys unsupervised at the foothill of a super cool wilderness and tell them to keep out. Once I got over that, I loved this book and hope the hints in the book mean there will be a series.

I do like Broach's work, but the cover made me not want to pick this one up. I will take a look now.
