12yo Pina is headed to camp with her best friend Jo. Camp Clear Skies is open for the first time in 20 years - closed after a camper disappeared. The campers have been warned to not go into the woods, repeatedly, but Pina, Jo, and a couple of new friends are drawn to the light they see glowing in the glade. Little do they know that something is out there and it needs a new body.
It is too bad that the danger doesn’t become palpable until almost 200 pages in - the kids’ escapades seem harmless and fun until then. After that, there are only 60 more pages to have something interesting happen.
The characters cue white; there is lots of LGBT pronoun usage, including a possibly transgender character.
