Veda’s island home is relatively peaceful. SHe and her
grandfather eke out an existence as members of the poorer, Basso folk, while
her best friend, Nico, is one of the Dogio, the rulers. Veda has always
carefully avoided the Night, as Bellona worships the sun, but also because of
the evil Night gangs which roam the countryside, pillaging and killing.
Then one day Veda is captured by the Night and learns the truth about her
homeland and her place within it. Now she has to decide where she stands and
what she is willing to do for her fellow countrymen.
There is nothing inherently wrong with this book -- it’s
just that I have already read it. I have Hunger Games, I have Divergent,
I have a dozen other girl with a destiny caught inside a love triangle books.
No new ground broken here and no new heroes whom I feel compelled to champion.
