12-year-old Kasienka and her mother have emigrated from Poland to Coventry, England. Now, Kasienka is an outcast at school; an outsider subject to bullying and prejudice, she desperately wants to return to Poland, but Mama came to search for Tata who abandoned the family, so going back is not an option.
Written in verse, Crossan examines the plight of the immigrant, bullying, and family relationships. A bit too mature for elementary, girls would enjoy this quick middle school read.
