It's Raining Cupcakes by Lisa Schroeder

Schroeder, Lisa. It’s Raining Cupcakes, 188 pgs. Aladdin, 2010. $15.99. Sexual Content-G; Language-G; Violence-G. Isabel has spent her whole life (all 12 years) in Oregon. She wants to go somewhere—anywhere. Her best friend Sophie tells her about a children’s recipe contest where the finalists will be flown to New York City with one parent for a bake-off. Isabel is determined to win. She tries recipes all summer long while she helps her mom get ready to open a new cupcake shop, It’s Raining Cupcakes. Her mom gets cold feet before the shop opens and Isabel must find a way to help her mom’s confidence and gain some too. Two cupcake recipes are included at the end, unfortunately not the recipe for chocolate jam tarts. The book is like a cupcake, small, sometimes sugary, but overall leaves a good taste in your mouth. EL – ADVISABLE. Samantha, Public Librarian.

This title was on our book fair this week. I didn't even pick it up-it looked too sugary for me but I like your review.
