For some reason (unexplained), 7th grader Sadie has always been haunted. Whenever she gets close to anyone, the ghost causes bad things to happen - Sadie is sure the ghost caused the loss of her only best friend, Anna. While she is trying to lay low at her new school, she does meet Charlotte, who seems so kind and so happy to befriend Sadie. Then also along comes Mal - also very cool and mysterious.
I swear - parents should just teach their children from an early age to avoid anyone whose name is “Mal”. Could you be more obvious? Nope, because Sadie is oblivious to the danger Mal poses - even though the clues are blindingly clear. I love a good ghost story - “good” being the operative word.
