Moss takes a long and hilarious look at the paperback teen fiction of the 80’s and 90’s.  Most of the book covers series fiction, like Sweet Valley High, but later chapters delve into problem novels and horror – where the books weren’t necessarily part of a series.  As an adult and a middle school librarian, I totally appreciate to look back at the history of YA fiction.  I missed most of it as it came out because I was either in college or teaching in a classroom, but I certainly weeded a lot of it from my library shelves as the quality of middle grade and YA fiction had improved the last 20 years.  The book ends rather abruptly – I was hoping at least for an epilogue or a list of books that have stood the test of time, but no. This is a total niche publication – but for the right aged book group, it would be oh so much fun to read and discuss!

I also would have missed most of the titles, but have to read it to get an overview of teen fiction! I have a collection from the 1950s, and that would make a fun history book, too!
