Once Upon a Time in the Kitchen by Carol Odell

Odell, Carol Once Upon a Time in the Kitchen: Recipes and Tales from Classic Children’s Stories, illustrated by Anna Pignataro.  Sleeping Bear, 2010.  $12.95.  PICTURE BOOK.  Odell takes scenes from twenty-one classic children’s stories and creates recipes inspired by the tale.  For the most part the recipes are pretty basic and sometimes it is hard to find the connection.  As a cookbook it is kind of elementary – and there are lots of other really great beginning cookbooks out there.  I really wish she had taken the time to find stories and passages with real recipes the reader could make instead.  EL – OPTIONAL.
