Pigs Make Me Sneeze! by Mo Willems

Willems, Mo Pigs Make Me Sneeze!, pgs.64 Hyperion Book CH. Language~G, Sexual Content~G; Violence~G;

Elephant and Piggie are back! However, Gerald has a serious case of the sneezes. He seems to sneeze quite a bit when he is around Piggie. Does this mean they can no longer be friends?! Fortunately, with the help of good Doctor Cat, it turns out Elephant has a cold and not allergies to Piggie. However, since Elephant didn’t practice good “Dracula” sneeze habits, Piggie got sick too.

This is another delightful volume in the Piggie and Elephant adventures/dramas!
The Elephant and Piggie early readers should be in every school and public library.

Listen to My Trumpet! by Mo Willems - ESSENTIAL

Willems, Mo. Listen to My Trumpet! Hyperion Books for Children, 2012 $8.99. Picture Book.

In this Elephant and Piggie book, Piggie gets a trumpet and tries to impress Elephant with his talent. Elephant has a hard time breaking the news to Piggie that although his trumpet is making noise, it’s not making music. Piggie isn’t trying to make music though; he’s trying to speak elephant.

This book has simple pictures and simple text. It’s entertaining and super cute. If you are a lover of Elephant and Piggie you will definitely want to add this to your collection.

Snail & Worm: Three Stories About Two Friends by Tina Kugler - ADVISABLE

Kugler, Tina.  Snail & Worm: Three Stories About Two Friends.  PICTURE BOOK.  Houghton, Mifflin, Harcourt, 2016.  $16.99.

Snail is playing with a rock and a stick when Worm comes by.  They become friends and Worm encourages Snail to climb a flower.  Worm is very proud when Snail gets to the top, but how will he get down?  In the last story, Snail and Worm introduce their pets, Worm’s pet named Sam (who is a dog) and Snail’s pet dog Rex (who is a spider).

Fans of Mo Willem’s Elephant and Piggie books will latch onto these two new friends.  The stories are humorous with charming conclusions.  Kugler’s illustrations have the same appealing simplicity of Elephant and Piggie books, but with more details in the backgrounds.

Listen To My Trumpet by Mo Willems-ESSENTIAL

Willems, Mo, Listen to My Trumpet. Disney Hyperion Books, 2012. pgs. 64. EASY READER.

When Piggie gets a new trumpet, he can’t wait to show his friend Elephant. Elephant, however, is not so fond of the horrible music his friend is making. Will he find a way to tell his friend without hurting Piggie’s feelings?

A cute easy reader for young children. The pictures are fun and work well with the story. The story offers great opportunities for the reader to express themselves through emotions, sound, and even playing with different voices. The text is simple, but tells a great story. Fans of Mo Willems, Elephant and Piggie books, or funny easy readers will love reading this book.

I Broke My Trunk! by Mo Willems - ESSENTIAL

Willems, Mo I Broke My Trunk! 64 pg. Hyperion Books for Children, 2011. PICTURE BOOK. $8.99. Elephant and Piggie books are darling...this one did not disappoint. Gerald broke his trunk and relates what happened to his best friend Piggie. Funny story with an even funnier ending...a kid pleaser for sure! The text and illustrations are very short and simple, but it is amazing how much emotion can be expressed just by changing text size and facial expressions. A must for the collection! EL-ESSENTIAL. I really like Slop! by Mo Willems –ESSENTIAL

Willems, Mo I really like Slop! Hyperion, 2015 $17.99 EARLY READER

Piggie shows Gerald a bowl of slop. Gerald is appalled and questions Piggie about the smelly green slop. Piggie tells him how much she loves slop, then gets a great idea that he should give it a try. Will Gerald the elephant agree to try something new and possible disgusting?

Trying to explain this very simple story, I ended up using big words that Mo would never use! I was cracking up reading this! I especially love the illustrations which add SO much to the personality and hilarity. I read this to many classes of lower grade students, we stopped and brainstormed what the Slop would smell like, my favorite was “Broccoli Farts”. Students were quite worried, by the ending, that Piggie and Gerald are a couple, which was also funny. Great lesson here about trying new things and friendship.
